KENYA Asali Peaberry (Washed) - Whole Beans
Harvested in the Aberdare Ranges, this coffee is made up of SL28 & 34 varietals. Under the Asali Cooperative which has membership of over a hundred farmers, it produces more than a thousand bags each year. During harvesting in March, the coffee cherries are handpicked and pulped in a wet mill after which they are fermented for 24 hours and dried on drying tables. All defects are removed by hand at this drying stage.
Peaberries - are natural anomalies arising from the coffee cherry with just one single round bean whereas the usual fruit has two hemispheric beans (seeds) within. Peaberries taste different, often having brighter acidity and more complex aromatics compared to those of the same harvest.
This highly complex bean with a floral aroma, has notes of blackcurrant and winey taste. The full-bodied syrupy mouthfeel with bright acidity leaves a memorable tannin aftertaste.
